1932 - IBM - Electric accounting machines
During the 1930s and 1940s, IBM developed and marketed an increasingly sophisticated line of electric accounting machines. The company's Electric Accounting Machine (EAM) Division operated in 79 countries throughout the world and maintained some 80 sales offices throughout the United States. This 1932 advertisement, published in the July edition of The Bulletin of the National Retail Dry Goods Association, informs store owners and accountants of the benefits of two EAM products: an automatic summary punch and a direct subtraction accounting machine.
